Presenter: Samantha Enslen, President, Dragonfly Editorial
It’s 6:00 pm Friday, and you’ve got 30 pages of proposal copy to proof. You’re tired and over-caffeinated. Is there any chance you’ll do a good job?
Yes, there is—if you use a checklist.
In his 2009 book The Checklist Manifesto, surgeon Atul Garwande explains how checklists simplify highly complex tasks—from flying airplanes to removing tumors. Our work may not be as important as brain surgery, but we can use Gawande’s methods to bring rigor and consistency to our proposal processes.
In this session, you’ll learn how to:
Create checklists to guide various steps in the publications process — writing, editing, proofreading, and desktopping
Understand what kinds of tasks to include in a checklist, and what to leave off
Customize checklists to guard against your blind spots
Integrate checklists into your workflow so you never skip a step.
